What is smart wiring?

On this website you might notice we refer to both "smart wiring" and "smart wiring™" (with capitalisation and the trademark symbol).

The concept of "smart wiring" is the combining your various telephone, fax, data, audio, security, lighting and other cables to make it easy to access and integrate these components.

"Smart Wiring" is the name given to the industry recognised standard of wiring a home to provide this integration.

Why would I use a smart wiring design for my home?

There are a number of reasons to wire your home using a smart wiring design.

Once the cabling is installed, you can add and modify components in the system without having to re-wire your house. Designs produced by an accredited Smart Wired™ designer are FOXTEL and Telstra approved.

Using a smart wiring design will add value to your home and "future proof" it by enabling you to add new hardware components at a later stage without having to re-wire.

There are numerous benefits to employing an accredited Smart Wired™ designer.

Designs produced by an accredited Smart Wired™ designer are FOXTEL and Telstra approved.

Designers can produce a detailed "blue print" of the wiring design making it easy to install and allowing anyone doing work later on see all the components of the system to quickly and easily make any required modifications.

When is the best time to install smart wiring in my home?

The best time to install smart wiring is when you are building your home. Your designer will be able to draw up comprehensive plans to show your builder and electrical contractor exactly what components to install and where. Your designer can even work with your architect or interior designer to full integrate the wiring plan with the rest of your house design.

The next best option is to install your wiring when you are renovating your home.

It is far more expensive to retrofit smart wiring to an existing home, particular where access is an issue.

Using a smart wiring design in your home will certainly make it more liveable. This may well influence the decision for someone looking to buy a property, particularly when compared to a similar house without this feature.
